Ground Water Depth 2007 onward
An article by Alastair Lack
This is not a scientifically controlled experiment.
Some years ago I dug a well about 2m deep in my garden, and started measuring the depth of water in it. It is just about on the flood plain, so 150 cm of water represents the depth at full flood - when the land all around is under water.
In two very dry summers the well ran dry, and I had to make a further sump to reach the water, which is why the depth is negative in 2009 & 2011.
I'm sorry about the horizontal axis being unclear; Excel defeats my skills at formatting it, but I believe the graphs to be correct. The Environment Agency's '1:100' flood level is shown in red.
