Coombe Bissett and Homington Parish Council
The Parish Council meets in the Homington Room at Coombe Bissett and Homington Village Hall on the 2nd Tuesday of January, March, May, July, September and November.
Latest Update 5/11/2024
The Old Chalk Pit site.
An Application for Permission to Develop has been received from the former applicants by Wiltshire Council for the Chalk Pit Site. There are NO DETAILS of what might be then applied for.
From previous applications and comments from parishioners, it is clear that villagers do not want this site to be developed. The application is inaccurate as only the flat part of the original site was used as a Highways Depot Storage for road chippings, and has now council houses on it. The rear half, the actual chalk pit, reverted to woodland and was sold by Wiltshire Council as woodland. It was subsequently cut down by the applicants and has largely regrown.
What is concerning is the rather short deadline for comments, with Christmas slowly approaching, as usual, and the fact that previous comments will not be carried forward
If this is passed for Permission in Principle to develop, no doubt some ghastly version of former applications will be requested.
The full planning application can be viewed here.
Comments must be received by 17th November 2024
If you wish to comment there is little time to waste.

Do you want improvements to bus services?
How about an early evening 29 bus to Salisbury arriving around 18.40
and a late return around 22.30 or 22.45? Fridays and Saturdays?
Wiltshire Council have informed us that there is some funding to improve rural bus services, and they would like to have ideas about how our service can be improved. Suggestions can be emailed to [email protected]
Wiltshire Council ask that suggestions reflect that use of this money will need to be spread around the county and so requests for small improvements to existing services are likely to be more successful than those for completely new all-day services, which could cost in the region of £150,000 per annum to operate and be difficult to resource.

Parish Recreation Ground is now closed to dogs from 1st April until 30th September every year
At the Parish Council meeting on 8th May 2018, regretfully, it was decided to close the Parish Recreation Ground to all dogs from 1st April until 30th September each year. Repeated requests in the Express, on signage on the recreation ground, on this website and in the minutes of council meetings, to the general public to pick up their dogs' excrement have been ignored by some members of the community. The amount of poop has been a danger to children and to the groundman . We thank those responsible members of the public who have picked up over the years, but there are just too many others who do not seem to care.
Who are the Chavs? What do they do?
Coombe Bissett and Homington Active Volunteers are a group of villagers who tackle jobs around the Parish that would otherwise cost the Parish Council to carry out. Their first job was to resurface part of the footpath to Stratford Toney with old road planings to eliminate the mud in wet weather, shown below. They have tackled a number of jobs around the villages since. If you would like to join them, contact Councillor Michelle King Tel: 07899 950195 Email
