Salisbury District Hospital - Foundation Trust
Members & Governors

We are very fortunate in having a hospital in Salisbury of which we can be justifiably proud. It is amongst the best in the country.

In 2006 it was awarded Foundation Trust status. Foundation Trusts are legally independent organisations with a duty to provide NHS services to NHS patients. They are still firmly part of the NHS, but with greater freedom to develop in the way that local people and staff feel is appropriate for them.

What has NHS Foundation Trust status changed?
  • There are more opportunities for local people to get involved in the hospital and help the Trust continue to  improve services for patients
  • The Trust Board is accountable to its Members through the Council of Governors, who are elected by the members of the Trust
  • There is now greater financial freedom that can be used to develop facilities and services in the organisation to benefit patients
What stayed the same?
  • Care and treatment in the hospital continues to be free.
  • The Trust continues to provide services to high standards set by the Department of Health
  • The Trust continues to work in co-operation with other health and social care organisations for the benefit of patients
Why does it matter to You?

Members of the Trust can
  • shape the future direction of the hospital
  • be consulted over future developments
  • get actively involved in the planning and monitoring of services
  • tell the Trust about the needs and expectations of the local community
  • vote in and stand for elections for governors
  • share ideas and experiences that lead to continued service improvements
  • attend special events to gain an inside view of the hospital.
As a member you decide on the level of involvement that you want to have.

If you live in the Trust catchment area, or have been a patient here, and are sixteen years or over, you can join the Trust as a member. All you have to do is either
  • Fill in an application form (click Here)
or
  • Phone the Membership Manager on 01722 336 262 ext. 4390

You will be most welcome
