Coombe Bissett & Homington Tennis Club

Picture
History

It all started back in 1986 after a chance conversation between George Finniss and Martin Trickett."Wouldn't it be nice to play tennis in the village" Martin said. "I'll organise a meeting" said George...Who didn't even own a racket then !  On September 9th. a meeting of 14 interested villagers met and the seeds were well and truly sown. Money was raised and eventually land was found. The land was on an enormous slope next to the cemetary in Pennings Drove, kindly leased from Ed Perrot. Many hours of digging and depositing tons of chalk in every lane and byway for miles around finally saw the building and completion of the courts we have today. The official opening was held in Sept. 1988 when Kim Perrot, the owners daughter, appropriately cut the ribbon and declared the courts open.

In 2009 the courts were resurfaced and new nets installed.    A new Clubhouse was completed in 2012, known as the Jubilee Pavilion.  It was officially opened on 3rd June 2012, by the owner, Ed Perrot, over the Queen’s 60th Jubilee weekend of celebrations.  In July 2018  Club members celebrated its 30 year anniversary.  Members remain steady at about 70.
